Ludacris Reacts to Winning the BMI President’s Award
On Friday, August 22, BMI congratulated Ludacris with the 2014 BMI President’s Award at the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards ceremony.
The red carpet rolled out on Hollywood Boulevard for a star-studded guest list, which included the likes of Mike Will, Chris Brown, DJ Mustard, Big Krit, Eric Bellinger, Faith Evans, Future, and many more. And while the awards honored many songwriters, producers and publishers of the most-performed R&B/hip-hop songs of the past year, this night belonged to Luda.
According to the BMI President & CEO, Mike O’Neil,“The President’s Award is bestowed to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in songwriting with profound global influence on culture and the entertainment industry. Christopher ‘Ludacris’ Bridges’ songs traverse boundaries and reach listeners of all genres, making him a global presence. Additionally, his philanthropic efforts go beyond measure with the work he does by way of his charitable organization, The Ludacris Foundation, making him a natural for the BMI President’s Award.”
On winning the President’s Award, Ludacris told HardKnock TV:
“It’s another one to have on the checklist, and I’ve check it off. I think Will.I.Am and Pitbull got it before me. So, to be amongst that company and to be amongst those individuals is great.”
We asked some of his peers and BMI award attendees to weigh in on his Luda’s President Award, and, not surprisingly, they all found him well-deserving.
Music industry vet, Faith Evans, shared, “I think why he is being honored extends beyond his artistry and his musicianship. He’s a philanthropist, an entrepreneur. He deserves it, he’s put in work.”
Eric Bellinger agreed, “I think Ludacris won the award and is well-deserving of the award because of his consistency over the years. A lot people come with a record and then they die down. Every time you heard a Ludacris song it was always incredible, no matter how much time was in between. And he made sure that if (he’s) gunna release this, it’s gotta be something that people can continue to latch onto (his) legacy.”
Ludacris plans to add one more project to his legacy with the release of his 8th studio album, entitled Ludaversal, set to drop this fall.
