Childish Gambino AKA Donald Glover Talks Drake, Short Shorts, New Album Camp, Black ish vs Hood ish

In part 1 Donald talks to Nick Huff Barili about how he got his rap name Childish Gambino from a Wu-Tang name generator. Donald states that he didn’t get really get into hip hop until his senior year in HS, when he went from listening to Portishead to Pharcyde to Biggie to Eminem. Gambino goes on to talk about Hood Shit Vs Black shit, which he mentions on the song Outside of his new album Camp and that the search to define Blackness is a constant theme in Camp.

Gambino thinks his album leaking will actually help and thinks the label did it on purpose as did Drakes. Donald addresses Drake comparisons saying that he could relate to Drake at first but that the lane Drake is in now he can’t relate to. Gambino says he is not cool enough to pull off the cigar in mouth look. If anything he could see comparisons to Mos Def more than to Drake.
